Crampons

I wore strap on crampons for a couple of years but the difficulty in getting them on and off was a problem.

The upgrade to the step in crampons was costly because I needed both new boots and crampons, but it was worth it. I am now more self-reliant and that is especially important on steep slopes at high altitudes.

On several occasions I have been required to help others get their crampons on and off. It is now my strong opinion that if you choose to go on a hike or climb that requires the use of crampon; you need to be able to get your crampons on and off yourself. I can guarantee that at the time you are in dire need to get them on or off no one will be in helping distance. The risks are just not worth it.
