My first
climb to Upper Yosemite Falls was hot and tiring. In fact I told myself
that I would never make this climb again. Since that difficult hard
day I now make this hike once or twice each year but only the months
of December through April. In the summer and fall this hike is just
too hot for me.
I love
to make this climb in the snows of winter and spring. The snow and
ice on this route melts quickly because of the elevation and sun exposure,
therefore each time you hike this route the conditions are different.
In the
winter, we hike with crampons for the icy trail and snow shoes for
the climb to North Point which always has deep snow. The top picture
of Upper Yosemite Falls was taken about halfway up the trail.
