Powell Lake is a great place to take young children on their first hike or take a non-hiking spouse.

The Gianelli's Cabin trail head in Emigrant Wilderness opens late in the spring because of its elevation. The trail head typically opens in late May and then by September the area has deer hunters. August is a good time to hike to Powell Lake because the mosquitoes are gone and the hunters have not yet arrived.
