Nevada
Falls lies above Vernal Falls on the Merced River in Yosemite National
Park. When I hike to Nevada Falls during the summer months, I take
the mist trails on the way up and return on the John Muir trail because
it is easier on the downhill even though its a little longer.
To
reach Nevada Falls in the winter, you have to hike the John Muir trail
to Vernal Falls and then take the upper mist trail to Nevada Falls
because the other trail options are closed due to snow and falling
rocks.
The
Merced River forms a pool just above Nevada Falls where hikers can
be seen sun tanning and cooling their feet on hot summer days. Several
have lost their lives by being washed over the falls from this calm
setting. The below right picture was taken from the John Muir trail.
