The
Merced River appears to be wild as seen from the mist trail. This hike
to Vernal Falls along the mist trail is my all-time favorite spring
hike in Yosemite. In the springtime this waterfall is at full flow
and the mist is guaranteed to soak you to the bone.
If
you hike in the summer or fall you will find the water flow quite low
due to decreased snow run off. The park closes the trail in the winter
and early spring because of rock fall danger. You can still reach Vernal
Falls from the top by taking the John Muir trail.
Hike
this trail early in the day to avoid the crowds. These pictures were
taken on the mist trail leading to Vernal Falls in Yosemite National
Park.
