Kenney Meadows

Emigrant Wilderness

Kennedy Meadows opens up early in the spring because of it's low elevation compared to Sonora Pass. It is the trail head to some of the best high county of Emigrant Wilderness and pack horses are available at this location. My favorite hike from Kenney Meadows leads to Granite Dome.

I do not like hiking with the horses especially on hot dry days and the trail to Granite Dome requires one full day of hiking with them.

Just past Kenney Meadows, the highway rises quickly as it passes over Sonora Pass and crosses the Pacific Crest Trail.
