Hiking
to the top of Half Dome through Little Yosemite Valley and up the cables
on the back side of the dome is a long day hike. This route is busy
with lots of hikers on the trail each and every day, especially on
weekends. On the cables I have seen men, women and children freak out,
this can be a scary place.
Hiking
the trail at night and reaching the cables at sunrise is a great way
to enjoy the climb. I would not make a night hike attempt on my first
try, you really need to know the trail to avoid getting lost in the
dark of night. Seeing sunrise on top of Half Dome is an exciting moment
to experience in Yosemite National Park.
The
cables are open between mid May to mid October. I like the last weekend
of September for my climbs.
