You
can climb the back side of El Capitan from several trail heads. I made
a day hike attempt in 10" of newly fallen snow from the trail head
at route 120 and the road to Foresta. We almost make it except for
a missed trial turn in the snow. The sign was covered with new snow.
A GPS is most helpful in snow hikes and we would have made it if I
had one at the time. Now I use one on every hike.
While
driving in the valley floor of Yosemite National Park it is enjoyable
to stop the car and try to spot rock climbers on the face of El Capitan.
They are very hard to see with the naked eye because they are so far
up.

pictures were taken from the valley floor of Yosemite.
